Recently I was in an Office store and met a fellow writer. She was looking for writing software and desperately needed assistance. All she’s ever used was author-writing software and she was lost without it. She was a published author of two books and a screenplay. There was a need to finish her project before the fast approaching deadline, and she didn’t have the software she normally used to do her work.

I would rather use writing software myself, but if I don’t have access to it, I can make do. I asked her if she had Microsoft Word or Corel Word Perfect. She did. I explained to her that once she adjusted and set the proper parameters, the rest would be ok and the work could get done with the program she had.

The right novel software is great, but the work can get done without it. I was able to help a person that was in a panic state by showing her another way to get work done. There’s more than one way to skin a cat.

Writers have to learn to adapt in each situation. Software is the easiest. The Internet was down temporarily at home and I had to go to the public library. Don’t sweat software issues or any others you may face. There’s always another way. Things will go wrong while being productive.

New Novelist is the software I like. I could do without it, but I wouldn’t want to. If you want the most productive software that can save time, then it’s for you. If however you don’t have it, notepad can even get the job done. Stressing over software is ridiculous. Don’t do it. The show must go on and the job can be done with whatever you have. I suggest you work on your current project with what you have, but still order the software that can save you time. Time is money and money is time.

It doesn’t matter what software you use, the important thing is writing and finishing your project. Although specific writing software isn’t necessary, consider using it to save you time and money. I can get more done with the right software than without it, but regardless of the program, the job gets done. Create the best environment you can to finish the task at hand and don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s all small stuff.

Lucinda Hawksley, the great, great, great-granddaughter of Charles Dickens is the editor of New Novelist. The many published authors that use this popular novel software are John Hughes, Ben Marlow, and Dee Gordon. New Novelist is simple to install, easy to learn, and you can write the way you think.
